Welcome to Grade 5-O at NJIS, 2007-2008. This class is taught by Jane Olson who is an educator who has taught in five countries on three continents. She has taught Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2,  4, and 5. Mrs. Olson became a teacher at the age of forty after having worked with troubled girls who were removed from their homes. She was also a welfare caseworker who worked with people applying for foodstamps and older people who needed to move into assisted living.

Mrs. O is glad she made the move to teaching, as she enjoys being a teacher better than any other job she has ever had. Seeing children become responsible citizens who can think for themselves is a delight to Mrs. Olson who believes that our future is in the hands of those children in her classes.

Jane Olson believes it is important for teachers everywhere to help children learn tolerance and open-mindedness. She thinks that if we learn to celebrate our differences, we will one day learn to live in peace with one another. That is why Mrs. O teaches. She challenges her kids to think for themselves and to work to the very best of their potential. She loves watching her students grow and become independent while under her tutelage. Most kids enjoy being in Mrs. Olson’s class, as she mixes humor to a great extent with her lessons and each day her students laugh, as well as, work hard to become excellent learners.
